A smile can be your greatest asset. It is often the first feature that people notice when they meet you, and it can help show your personality and give insight into what you are thinking to your friends and family. Smiles, especially your own, should make you feel good, confident, and happy. If you find yourself critiquing your smile in the bathroom mirror, hiding your teeth behind a closed grin, or simply not smiling as often as you like, it may be time to think about finding a cosmetic dentist.

When considering cosmetic dentistry, many patients in the Overland Park, KS region, are not sure where to start. While an internet search or flipping through the yellow pages may deliver many results, it can be hard to determine who to trust with your smile.

Dr. Shane Nelson has been helping patients achieve their best smiles for many years. Through preventive, restorative, and cosmetic dental care, he works together with the patient to ensure that they get the health and cosmetic results they want. Here, Dr. Nelson offers some suggestions for your search for a cosmetic dentist:

  1. Ask for referrals

The internet and yellow pages will offer you a wealth of information; however, turning to a trusted friend or family member may be the best way to narrow down your search. If you have a friend who cannot stop talking about her newly aligned or brightened teeth, inquire how to contact the dentist to schedule an appointment.

  1. View before and after photos

Ask to see before and after photos of work your dentist has performed.  It can give you a view of the types of cases they work on frequently and the results they have delivered to previous patients.

  1. Consider location

Sometimes cosmetic dental treatments only require one appointment. However, in other cases, several appointments may be necessary before your treatment plan is determined. Once the plan is outlined, some cosmetic procedures will require multiple appointments. A convenient location will pay off with less time spent in the car, less traffic, and less gas.

  1. Meet the dentist

You can find out almost everything you need to know about the dentist’s experience and credentials on a website. However, it is important to meet with the dentist face to face. During your meeting, focus on the relationship you have with the dentist. Noticing if the dentist gives you the time to ask questions and raise concerns.

  1. Meet the team

As important as your comfort level is with the dentist, it just as important to have comfort with their team. You should feel welcomed and respected throughout your entire visit. Often patients seeking cosmetic dental treatment may feel self-conscious about their smiles. A strong dental team will put your anxiety at ease and treat you with gentle and respectful care, absent of any judgment.

Dr. Nelson is dedicated to his patients’ oral health and cosmetic appearance. He offers a full suite of holistic, gneuromuscular (GNM), biomimetic, and cosmetic dental services. If you are looking for cosmetic dental services, call our office today at (913) 297-7800 to schedule a consultation.
