Our practice, Shane Nelson DDS, is built on several fundamentals. Notably, we strive to treat you like family. We are uncompromising in our support for exceptional standards of safety and care. As a practitioner of holistic dentistry, we also approach every treatment, technique, product, and technology through the lens of “full body wellness.” Your smile is not isolated from the rest of your bodily organs and systems.
Oral health problems can present in two different ways:
- As symptoms of other medical conditions
- As causes of, or contributors to, diseases
Before and After Actual Patient Results
Dr. Nelson may detect periodontal signs of systemic diseases, such as diabetes, during an evaluation at our office in Overland Park, Kansas. For instance, gum disease is associated with poorly-controlled blood sugar levels. So, one of the beautiful things about skilled holistic dental care is that when your mouth is restored to health, the rest of your body follows suit. Maintaining safe, routine checkups and cleanings by our team helps keep diabetes in check, too!
See the benefits of holistic, biocompatible dentistry over traditional dentistry.
Holistic dentistry is a type of dentistry that approaches oral care from a holistic perspective. It considers how all health affects the whole body, and vice versa. Therefore, holistic dentistry treats all problems by focusing on all aspects of health. Holistic dentistry treats dental problems by focusing on the entire person. It focuses more on the whole body compared to traditional dentistry.
Every facet of your oral health care is provided using a holistic bio compatible approach. One, provides high tech, minimally invasive treatments. Two, uses only bio compatible and nontoxic materials. Three, treats you as a whole person focusing on the root cause. Four, balances cosmetics and function for long lasting results. Doctor Nelson has over 20 years of experience in the field of dentistry based on the principles of holistic, neuromuscular, and biomimetic dentistry.
Doctor Nelson examines the safety of every material and technique he uses to ensure it is not only effective at maintaining and restoring oral health, but that it is also safe for your whole body.
Additionally, oral diseases, such as advanced periodontal disease (periodontitis), contribute to the development of many systemic conditions. In fact, poor oral health is a risk factor for heart disease and is associated with several other conditions – ranging from Alzheimer’s disease to stroke. Researchers have found certain types of bacteria responsible for plaque can multiply, inflame the gums, and enter the bloodstream when the gummy tissue bleeds. The bacteria then travel to other parts of the body, where they can wreak havoc on the heart’s inner lining and valves. This process is to blame for a life-threatening condition called infective endocarditis.
